Maylou is a Purbrook Heron built in 1962 in Christchurch by Charles Purbrook She appears on British ships register in 1963 in Poole and was purchased by my husband in 1992 on his birthday! He was a professional boat builder and Chandler, so she has been very well cared for, loved and enjoyed and she needs an equally loving owner to sail her and love her again. She has been here in Chippenham for the past 5 years since my husband died, filled up in the summer and drained in the winter, so although she will need an electric pump for a couple of days while she takes up, this should be no different to her needs every Spring when she
had been out for the winter. She is covered with a heavy duty tarpaulin. Throughout Peter’s ownership she was moored at and sailed from,Christchurch at the same Boatyard where she was built (now Rossiters). She is Carvel built, with a Bermudan rig, but has an added Bowsprit as Peter was hoping to change her to Gaff rig, but never finished this. Fortunately, nothing had been removed, just the Bowsprit added and we sailed her with this for a season. She sails even better with it, and looks really beautiful, it really suits her classic lines.
Details
22 Ft Long, 7 ft beam Bermudan rig, Gross tonnage 3.6
Timber construction carvel built. Norwegian or Canoe Stern.
Lifting keel, draft 3 ft when keel is lifted, so is good for shallow coastal waters. She has an inboard Albin engine, more than sufficient (I also have most of a spare engine). The mast is aluminium, Standing Rigging is stainless Steel. Wooden boom, Spinnaker Pole, Flagpole and Horse, Main sail and working main sail,
Jib, Storm jib. Numerous sheets, Anchor chain and anchors, Mainsail Cover and brand new Cockpit cover, never used. Plenty of fenders, Battery, Bilge pump (rarely used as she ships little water). Ballast bars. She has an accurate Bulkhead compass, spare tiller, Signal and internal lights and instruments.
She has Heads, Gas Cooker, Padded Seats/Bunks. She will sleep 4 with canvas berth and pipe cot (all original). Good storage including hanging space. Numerous other miscellany including curtains etc if required.
It is hard to let her go but she should be enjoyed by someone who will have the same enthusiasm for her and for sailing as Peter did. If you did want to complete the rig conversion, the Gaff, sails and partly completed mast could be available, but I am happy for her to stay as she is.
